John Yokley The John Penton GNCC Side by Side Race Report
Big Country Powersports / Yokley Racing UTV Team driver John Yokley was unable to finish today due to a mishap on the trail. Total entry numbers were not available from the GNCC at the time of this report. John’s guest passenger was ATV Pro racer Jarrod McClure.
Summary
John Yokley was looking forward to the John Penton GNCC hoping to improve on his performances. In dangerously hot weather, he lined up with the top ranked XC1 Modified teams on the first row. He got a decent start and completed lap 1 in 4th place.
It was difficult to pass as the dust in the open fields was blinding. John was able to work his way up to 3rd place on the last lap. With less than a half mile to the finish, John and Jarrod came upon a competitor that was upside down on the trail. They tried to go around the machine on a steep bank. As they tried to pass, one wheel hit a rock, causing their own machine to roll over on its side.
John and passenger Jarrod climbed out of their machine, and attempted to roll it back on its wheels. Keep in mind that they are still on the side of a steep hill! When they righted their machine, it started rolling over a very steep embankment, and headed down in the valley with nobody on board. Needless to say, this was not good. When they got to the bottom to check on the condition of the Polaris XP900, it was worse than they expected. By the time it quit barrel rolling to the bottom; it was stuck on a tree with a broken frame.
The Racer Production cleanup crew had to bring their bulldozer in to drag it back to civilization. What looked like a sure podium finish turned into DNF in a matter of minutes. With the GNCC taking their annual summer break, John Yokley will have time to fix all the damage and be ready for the next event at the Power Line Park GNCC in St.Clairsville, Ohio on October 6. He’ll be ready!
